Dunkin' Donuts supporting Jimmy Fund for 13th year

August 18, 2011

Dunkin' Donuts has signed on to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Jimmy Fund, raising money to increase the chances of survival among cancer patients.

This is the 13th year the chain has supported the campaign, raising a total of $8 million since 1998.

This year, Dunkin' Donuts is hosting several fundraising events throughout August. Franchisees in the New England market have already generated proceeds from the annual Dunkin' Donuts George Mandell Memorial Golf Tournament and auction, held Aug. 8 in Boston.

The event was created by the Dunkin' Donuts New England Distribution Center (NEDCP), whose members are comprised of franchise owners, in honor of George Mandell, a Dunkin' Donuts franchisee who died of cancer. Historically, this tournament has been the Jimmy Fund's highest-grossing fundraising tournament and each year it continues to pay tribute to members of the Dunkin' Donuts community impacted by cancer.

Also, Dunkin' Donuts has introduced an in-store campaign inviting guests at participating restaurants across the region to donate $1 to support the Jimmy Fund and The Dunkin' Donuts & Baskin Robbins Community Foundation. Through Aug. 21, guests contribute $1 will be given an iconic paper cup to personalize and showcase on the walls of a Dunkin' Donuts restaurant.

"Dunkin' Donuts' continued commitment and devotion to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute helps us get one step closer to reaching our goal of curing this disease," said Suzanne Fountain, director of the Jimmy Fund. "We are honored every year to work with Dunkin' Donuts and grateful for their ongoing support and generosity."

The 10th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon will kick off Aug. 30, broadcasting stories from Dana-Farber patients, doctors, researchers and nurses, celebrity guests and athletes, over the span of 36 hours. This is the 10th year Dunkin' Donuts has sponsored the event.
