Dunkin' is dippin' into plant-based offerings too by partnering with plant-based product maker, Beyond Meat, to give diners a Beyond Sausage Sandwich at the chain's Manhattan stores, with future plans for a wider national rollout of the item. Dunkin' is the first U.S. restaurant brand to offer a plant-based "meat" breakfast offering, according to the release.
The "sausage" patty on the new sandwich is all plant based with spices added particularly for Dunkin' diners. The patty comes on an English muffin with egg and American cheese, though the release did not specify whether other ingredients in the sandwich were made from non-animal sources that would be required by vegan diners.
The patty, however, has 10 grams of plant-based protein and the brand sees the offering as a way for it to provide more sustainably sourced options for its guests. The brand is even holding a Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich tasting today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Manhattan stores, while the 240 West 40th St. location will offer a ceremonial first sample, served by Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown, Dunkin U.S. CEO David Hoffmann and Dunkin' U.S. CMO Tony Weisman.
"Beyond Meat has earned the national spotlight for its innovative products and for creating incredible awareness and excitement for the benefits of plant-based meat. Dunkin' has always stood apart for offering new and exciting choices to meet the needs of our on-the-go guests, and we are proud to collaborate with this industry leader to become the first U.S. restaurant chain to serve a Beyond Breakfast Sausage option," Hoffman said in the release.
Dunkin' now has more than 12,900 restaurants in 43 countries worldwide.
