Former Burger King Holdings, Inc. Chairman and CEO John Chidsey will move into the CEO's office at Subway Monday as he officially begins his leadership of the chain. He has a long background as a global franchise executive and senior leader for companies in and outside of foodservice, a news release said.
Before his CEO's role at Burger King, he served as president, CFO and in other senior management positions for the burger-based QSR. Chidsey also was chair and CEO for two corporate divisions of Cendant Corporation and in international leadership with PepsiCo. He also has a law degree from Emory University.
"We're very pleased to have John join our Subway family," the owners of the privately held, Subway brand, in a statement. "His diverse business background and global food and beverage expertise will help us continue the evolution of the Subway brand.
"He will help drive our commitment to always deliver exceptional experiences for our guests and continued support for our franchise owners."
The owners said that the man who has served as interim CEO during the search, Trevor Haynes, will continue with the brand in the role of President North America.
"I am honored to be joining such an iconic global brand and I am most excited about the future of Subway," Chidsey said in the release. "I look forward to learning from and working with the many constituents who have built this brand."
Subway encompasses more than 20,000 franchisees worldwide.
