A new digital platform is giving independent donut shops across the U.S. another way to get discovered.
Glazed & Amused has launched a nationwide directory featuring more than 1,800 independent and family-run donut shops across all 50 states. The site excludes chains, franchises and businesses owned by corporate parents, positioning itself specifically as a discovery tool for independent operators, the company announced in a press release.
The platform combines its shop directory with 17 curated donut trails. Among them are the Vermont Cider Donut Run, an eight-orchard and farm-stand route timed around fall tourism; the Amish Donut Trail through parts of Ohio and Indiana; and the Century Club, featuring shops that opened before 1930 and remain in operation.
Consumers can use a "Plan my donut run" feature to create personalized routes based on their starting location, available time and preferences, such as fritters, old-fashioned donuts, kolaches or vegan offerings. The resulting route can be opened in Google Maps and shared, potentially helping independent shops turn digital discovery into in-person traffic.
"The best donut in town is rarely the one with the biggest sign," creator Craig Bowman said in the news release. "When I go home to Ohio to visit my dad, I still drive 20 minutes every morning to the donut shop I loved as a kid. Most towns have a place like that. I want to ensure they're remembered."
Business owners can claim their listings for free to correct details or add information, and businesses cannot pay to be included in the directory. Consumers can rate shops, save favorites and submit businesses or trails that aren't already represented.
