Happy Meals safe in Superior City

December 7, 2010

As it turns out, the Grinch will avoid Superior City, Wisc., after all. A proposal pitched by a city council member to ban the inclusion of toys in quick-service restaurant meals has been voted down.

On Dec. 7, the Superior City Council failed to pass the measure by a vote of 4 to 1. There was one abstention.

Greg Mertzig drafted the resolution to ban toys for kids’ meals that have more than 600 calories, fat content exceeding 10 percent and sodium levels above 500 milligrams.

In November, San Francisco’s board of supervisors handily passed a similar law.
