Hardee’s temporarily closes Egypt units

February 1, 2011

An Egyptian franchisee of Hardee’s restaurants has closed its 32 locations in the country after some were looted in the ongoing political protests over President Hosni Mubarak’s leadership.

According to the Los Angeles Business Journal, one of the 32 restaurants damaged is located in Tahrir Square, or “Freedom Square,” in Cairo where 2-plus million people have turned out to protest.

The St. Louis-based chain and its parent company, CKE Restaurants, have two employees based in Cairo.

The Americana Group is the Cairo-based franchisee and operates 207 Hardee’s outlets throughout the region.
