Indiana Taco Bell worker's hepatitis A diagnosis among outbreak in 3 states

April 26, 2018

A southern Indiana Taco Bell location employee, diagnosed with hepatitis A, is the latest case affecting restaurant brands in Indiana, and reports of hundreds of cases in Kentucky and Michigan have also surfaced. In fact, Indiana health officials now warn residents of the Hoosier state to get vaccinated for hepatitis A if summer plans include visits to Kentucky or Michigan, according to a story on Chicago TV news station WMAQ's website.

Likewise, Taco Bell released a statement telling customers who ate at its Floyd Knobs store between April 1 and April 18 to heed local health officials' advice to watch for symptoms and seek medical attention if they feel they might have been infected. The location was sanitized and all team members were being offered vaccinations, according to the story.

Meanwhile, Indiana health officials have advised residents to get vaccinations for the highly contagious virus if they plan to visit neighboring states of Kentucky or Michigan in the months ahead.

More than 300 cases were reported in Kentucky, with 800 in Michigan, including 25 deaths. In Indiana, which typically sees about 20 cases of the infection annually, 77 cases have been confirmed in less than four months.
