India's QSR market growth staggering

July 26, 2010

It's no wonder many quick-service restaurant chains have been expanding in India or, at least, eyeing the Indian market. According to a recently released report, "Indian Fast Food Market Analysis," QSR numbers are up 30 to 35 percent per annum throughout the country.

Although the growth is dramatic, most restaurants have been concentrated to the larger metropolitan areas. YUM! Brands Inc. hopes to open 1,000 units of its top three brands throughout the next five years.

Additionally, some QSR brands are purposefully tapping into more unpenetrated areas, such as Baskin-Robbins, which is targeting smaller markets throughout India this year.

Other QSRs have witnessed plenty of success  in India, as well, and will continue expanding in the country.

McDonald's opened its first India location in New Dehli in 1996.
