In the contentious debate about whether or not kids meals toys are unfair marketing tactics contributing to the childhood obesity epidemic, Jack in the Box has taken a, perhaps, surprising stance. The chain is now dropping toys from its Kid's Combo Meals, shortly after announcing it was offering Chiquita Apple Bites as an alternative to french fries in the meals.
According to Yum Sugar, however, the chain is not yanking toys because of continued outside pressure.
Still, the move is welcome news for many advocates who have been pushing for bans on children's meals that include toys. In December, San Francisco passed such a ban.
