Jersey Mike's participates in Wreaths Across America

December 15, 2011

Jersey Mike's Founder & CEO Peter Cancro, along with team members and franchisees, laid wreaths for the fallen at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., as part of a National Day of Remembrance on Dec. 10.

With the help of its customers, Jersey Mike's raised $100,000 for Wreaths Across America (WAA), a nonprofit organization created to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington. In just over an hour, 90,000 wreaths were placed throughout the cemetery.

Also during the event, Jersey Mike's received a special honor as Cancro and Retired Air Force Master Sergeant and North Carolina-based franchise owner Joseph Minyon placed wreaths on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

"This was truly an honor for me to put on my uniform after 13 years and be part of this ceremony as a representative of Jersey Mike's," said Minyon, who joined Jersey Mike's in 1998, after retiring from 23 years of service. "It was a very significant moment to be part of placing wreathes on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This was truly an honor which has brought my two careers full circle."

Jersey Mike's plans to continue its support of Wreaths Across America in 2012.
