As part of its initiative to grow nationwide this year, Philippine-based fried chicken chain, Jollibee, will open its first Greater Dallas store Thursday, Aug. 20, on Preston Road in West Plano, Texas, a news release said. The company said due to the pandemic, the store will provide service via call-and-pickup, as well as drive-thru.

In June, Jollibee opened its second U.S. location in the Houston area, followed by a third store in the Chicago area and two in July in New Jersey. The company said Dallas-area Filipinos have been asking for an outlet in their climes for several years and the newest store answers that desire among natives of the brand's home base, as well as non-Filipinos.

"We're so honored and humbled by the warm reception and support we've received from our customers given the times," Maribeth Dela Cruz, president of Jollibee Group North America, Philippine Brands, in the release. "Our recent successful openings remind us of the strong love our customers have for the brand, which inspires us to continue to open despite the challenges of the current environment. … As we look forward to bringing Jollibee to even more cities across the U.S., the safety of our team members and customers will continue to be our top priority."

Due to the pandemic, opening day at the Plano store will be limited to call-ahead pick-up and drive-thru only. The dining room will remain closed until further notice.

As the third Texas outlet for the brand, the West Plano location — which is in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area — brings the brand's U.S. outlets' total to 45 stores. Jollibee also has two southeast Texas stores.

"We hope that this new store can help bring a little spark of joy to West Plano, which, like many cities across the U.S., has suffered as a result of the pandemic," Dela Cruz said. "We're especially proud to have added jobs to the local community. Finally, for Filipino Americans who consider Jollibee a 'taste of home' as well as those trying our products for the very first time, our wish is that Jollibee can be a source of comfort for individuals and families during these uncertain times."

Jollibee's offerings, which feature a mashup of Western comfort food and Asian flavors, include the marinated fried chicken and gravy dish, dubbed Chickenjoy and Jolly Spaghetti, with a signature sweet-style sauce with ham and hotdog and a chicken sandwich and totable peach mango pies.

Jollibee is the largest fast-food chain brand in the Philippines, where it has more than 1,400 stores. The chain is expanding globally among its 240 international branches, including stores in the U.S. states of Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Washington, and Virginia. It has more than 5,800 stores in the total system worldwide.
