KFC ad under fire from victim advocacy organization

August 22, 2013

KFC's TV ad for its new Hot & Spicy Bites has come under fire from victim advocacy organization, Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE).

The ad shows a woman slapping a man after trying the new item for the first time. SAVE charges that the campaign "endorses a double standard which condemns violence against women, but views violence against men as acceptable and even comical."

KFC contends the spot represents tongue-in-cheek humor, according to a news release.

Opponents from 28 countries have signed a Change.org petition condemning the KFC ads for promoting "dangerous stereotypes."

"KFC executives should be hanging their heads in shame," said SAVE spokesperson Sheryle Hutter. "They still don't get it -- there's no excuse for domestic violence whether it affects a man or woman."
