KFC Australia has introduced its first-ever vending machine, a global first for the brand, to distribute free samples of its new Sweet Tokyo Hot & Crispy chicken, according to a Colitco report.

The machine, set to debut Oct. 18 at a secret Sydney location, marks KFC's entry into automated retail. The system delivers boneless chicken pieces coated in teriyaki glaze and sesame seeds, offering consumers a contactless way to sample the limited-time menu item.

A KFC spokesperson said the promotion encourages customers to follow social media clues to find the vending machine, located in what the company calls "Sydney's spiciest alleyway."

Industry analysts say the launch highlights the growing role of vending and automated retail in foodservice. Australia's vending machine sector generates more than $7 billion annually and is expected to grow 3 to 3.5 percent per year through 2034, driven by demand for cashless, self-service options.
