KFC has now partnered with Pepsi sub-brand, Mountain Dew on a peach and honey-flavored soft drink, called Sweet Lightning, which will only be available at or through the QSR chicken brand's locations.
The ad campaign around the partnership centers on a smooth-talking Mountain Dew pitchman named "Sweet" who woos the Colonel himself right into a job as the very first beverage that will be offered only at KFC.
"The Colonel and Sweet shook on it, agreeing that Sweet Lightning would not be served in any other restaurant, and one sweet deal was struck," said a news release about the offering from KFC.
Previously, Mountain Dew has partnered with KFC sister brand, Taco Bell, to debut another soft drink variation, Baja Blast, which the release said was a big hit.
The companies said Sweet Lightning was created as a beverage designed to be paired with KFC's Original Recipe fried chicken.
"With the addition of Sweet Lightning, we now have a drink that is as unique to KFC as the Colonel's secret blend of 11 herbs and spices," KFC U.S. CMO Andrea Zahumensky, said in the release. "And like our world-famous fried chicken, SweetLightning will keep fans coming back for more."
Sweet Lightning is a permanent addition to KFC's beverage offerings nationwide.
