KFC doesn't waffle about bringing this LTO back

March 21, 2019

The combination of chicken and waffles is having a QSR moment. Late last month, Papa John's said it would debut a chicken-and-waffles pizza this year after its customers selected the mashup for the brand's next fan-selected pizza. Now, from the very same corporate home base of Louisville, Kentucky, KFC said today it's bringing its Chicken & Waffles combo back faster than any LTO in its history after overwhelming demand since the dish's initial appearance last November.

From March 23 through April 29, or while supplies last, KFC said customers can order the Extra Crispy fried chicken with Belgian Liege-style waffles combination. KFC sold out of the dish in a mere two weeks in November, so that kind of popularity brought it back this spring as either a basket or sandwich.

"We underestimated how much love there would be, so we're bringing it back just four months later," KFC U.S. CMO Andrea Zahumensky said in the release. "Too soon? Not a minute."

The waffles were created with Belgian pearl sugar and specially created to pair with the brand's chicken. The choice of this particular waffle-chicken pairing  results from a test between it and 14 other variations.

Baskets have a breast, thigh and drum or three tenders, along with the waffle and a side of syrup for $5.49. Sandwiches have breast filets between two waffles, with syrup for $5.99 or as a combo meal for $7.99. The chain also will offer a Big Basket with two waffles, two syrups and a choice of two pieces of white meat, three pieces of dark meat or four tenders for $7.99. Also returning are commercials featuring those icons of chicken and waffle syrup, Colonel Sanders and Mrs. Butterworth.
