KFC Indonesia redefines 'meatless' offerings with fried chicken skins

June 4, 2019

It's no mystery that QSRs are flocking to meatless offerings, but in Indonesia, KFC has interpreted meatlessness in a whole new way: The brand's outlets there are offering fried chicken skin, completely free of meat.

KFC Indonesia was first to announce the item on its Twitter feed, according to the British newspaper, The Sun. However, the skins are actually available at a number of international locations, including some in Bangkok, Thailand.

Diners who tried the offerings described them as salty, but apparently in a good way since many locations said they sold out. When asked whether KFC might consider placing the item on menus in the U.S. or other areas of the world, a spokeswoman left the door open on the subject, saying that although "there aren’t plans to bring this to the U.S. right now," the brand's food innovation teams worldwide are always watching both food service trends and high-performing menu items all over the globe for new ideas and possibilities for state-side locations and those elsewhere.
