KFC mashes up mega-popular heat +sweet

November 14, 2019

In the annals of really really sizzling hot trends, hot chicken along with chicken-and-waffles have got to be at the top of the temperature dial, explaining why KFC has brought the two ideas together in a single, Nashville Hot Chicken & Waffles LTO.

The dish pairs a couple of the brand's favorite innovations in a sweet, spicy, smokey and potentially sticky treat, according to a news release, which said the dish will be available at its stores nationwide on Monday.

"Our Nashville Hot Fried Chicken and Chicken and Waffles are arguably two of the biggest fried chicken innovations of all time," said Andrea Zahumensky, chief marketing officer, KFC U.S. "Now we're combining them into one amazing union that's sure to be the next big thing in America. It doesn't get hotter than that!"

Nashville Hot Chicken was introduced in January 2016, and became the most successful KFC product launch to that date. The brand's chicken and waffles followed in November of last year, but this is the first time the brand has merged two mega-winners like this.

KFC said the chicken and waffles offering can also be made without the heat. Other options that all come with or without the Nashville Hot sauce, include:

  • A chicken breast, two-piece thigh and drum, or three-piece tenders with a waffle and a side of syrup for $6.49.
  • A Big Basket meal with two waffles and two syrups, a choice of two-piece white meat, three-piece dark meat, or four-piece tenders with a drink for $8.49.
  • An Extra Crispy fried chicken breast filet between waffles  with syrup for $5.99 or as a combo for $7.99.

The brand said customers can get Nashville Hot Chicken & Waffles delivered free through Grubhub, where available, until Nov. 24.
