Coming off very positive Q2 earnings, Kentucky Fried Chicken is pushing forward big time in the second half of the year to expand its footprint in more urban and metropolitan areas, according to an email announcement.
The brand already opened 19 restaurants in the U.S. after the second quarter, leading to a plus three net-new growth year-to-date — the first time since 2004.
Come 2022, its aggressive expansion will include launching six urban inline restaurants in new markets, including New York (Queens, Harlem and Chinatown), St. Louis and California.
"Traditionally a brand known for its suburban footprint, KFC will aggressively enter more densely populated areas, where the real estate doesn't allow for a traditional drive-thru model, with its urban inline design," stated the announcement.
Its urban inline design is geared to serve the on-the-go customers living in bigger cities, and will include digital innovations for a more rewarding guest experience.
