Kentucky Fried Chicken is bringing brunch, at least for a limited time, with its chicken and waffles LTO, the brand said.
The traditional mid-morning meal offering pairs Extra Crispy chicken with Belgian Liege-style waffles made with a yeast-raised dough instead of a batter. To add to the upscale tone of the temporary offering, the brand has included imported Belgium "pearl sugar" in the waffles to give them a sweet crunch.
"With the finishing touch of classic Mrs. Butterworth's syrup, (it) makes for a scrumptious dish I'd put up against versions at upscale restaurants, but we're offering it at a price just about anyone can afford," said KFC U.S. CMO Andrea Zahumensky, in the release.
KFC U.S. Head Chef Bob Das said the brand really went through a process to get the waffles just right.
"We went through 15 different variations before landing on our unique Belgian Liege-style waffle, which is sweeter and doughier than American-style waffles," he said.
The LTO is available through the end of this year at the chain's 4,200 U.S. outlets. Chicken & waffles offerings start at $5.49 and is also available as a sandwich featuring the brand's Hot Honey fried chicken breast fillet between two waffles for $5.99.
