KFC rolls out new South African ad campaign

October 7, 2010

KFC has teamed up with Ogilvy South Africa and one of the country's most prolific directors, Tony Baggott of Frieze Films, to launch a new television ad campaign.

According to Bizcommunity.com, the 30-second spot focuses on two strangers waiting for their KFC orders. The two inadvertently touch while reaching for the same KFC Twister, and catch glimpses - in 14 different scenes - of their potential life together. When reality hits, however, the woman grabs the Twister and leaves the man empty-handed and confused.

The ad's message is that the KFC Twister is more tempting than a potential love interest.

The KFC Twister features white meat chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and pepper mayo sauce wrapped in a soft tortilla. The commercial, devised by Ogilvy's creative team, began airing earlier this month.

KFC has long been a South African quick-service favorite. Earlier this year, KFC launched its new global tagline, "So Good," which was partially devised by Ogilvy, as well as two other firms.
