KFC Ronald McDonald tweet: The taunt 'heard 'round the world'

January 4, 2018

Under the heading, "Tis better to laugh than to cry" comes KFC and its tweet parodying the tweet war between North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and U.S. President Donald Trump this week around the size of  each leader's respective nuclear missile buttons.

Appropriately perhaps, this particular tweet came not from the U.S. KFC twitter account, but rather that of KFC UK & Ireland, and is aimed squarely at KFC's QSR rival, McDonald's, or more specifically at the burger chain's mascot, Ronald McDonald.

Wednesday morning, the KFC UK & Ireland pushed out this tongue-in-cheek social media taunt:

The tweet referenced the social media word war that also took place this week between the two world leaders dealing with the size of the nuclear missile launch "button" on each leader's respective desk. The whole ordeal sprang out of a New Year speech that had Kim telling his people that he had a button on his desk ready to fire at America.

To that, U.S. leader Trump responded on his Twitter account that he also has a nuclear button.

It's yet another example of KFC's ongoing ability to capitalize on buzzworthy news topics by taking a humorous approach, even on something so dire and potentially world devastating as a nuclear war. Thus far it seems to be working because the KFC parody has been retweeted many thousands of times.
