KFC has suspended the use of its familiar catchphrase, "It's finger-lickin' good" globally now, five months after it stopped using the wording in its ads in the U.S., as QSRweb reported on March 17.
In fact, the brand fell on its sword in a news release this week, headlined, "And the winner of the award for the most inappropriate slogan for 2020 goes to...KFC." In it, the Louisville-based company said would no longer use the phrase in global ads.
"We find ourselves in a unique situation — having an iconic slogan that doesn't quite fit in the current environment. While we are pausing the use of It's Finger-Lickin' Good, rest assured the food craved by so many people around the world isn't changing one bit." Catherine Tan-Gillespie, KFC Global CMO said in the release.
The company said its 64-year-old catchphrase is not going away for good. Instead, it will remain in a kind of marketing cold storage until a day when everyone can again lick their fingers freely without fear of becoming ill due to a global virus.
