KFC UK debuts meatless 'chicken' burger June 17, still no meatless plans for US

June 14, 2019

In the United Kingdom, KFC is launching a meat-free version of its crispy "chicken" burger, as an LTO starting Monday, June 17, as confirmed by KFC U.S. CEO Kevin Hochman in today's QSRweb podcast interview.

The chicken taste-alike is aptly called, The Imposter, as it contains no chicken, but rather a filet from the meatless protein producer, Quorn, which is actually made of  a form of fermented fungus. It will be available in U.K. KFC outlets for four weeks.

As for whether the meatless "chicken" offering or anything like it might soon be available in the U.S. and elsewhere, Hochman said in this week's podcast that at the moment there are no immediate plans, but the door is always open on any possibility that might be appropriate for KFC diners.
