Krispy Kreme said it will roll out national delivery this coming Saturday, officially Leap Day, as part of its tribute to those relatively rare Leap Day babies, according to a news release.
The brand is also kicking off delivery by delivery dozens of doughnuts to hospitals nationally on Leap Day, which any labor-fatigued mom might welcome after the big push. The brand said that on Saturday, expectant parents, families, doctors, nurses and other maternity ward staff at hospitals within 10 miles of most Krispy Kreme shops can post on social media when a baby is delivered, citing the hospital, tagging @KrispyKreme and using #KrispyKremeSpecialDelivery.
Then, throughout the day, Krispy Kreme will deliver five dozen free doughnuts to help celebrate their forever-young offspring who will only officially have a birthday every four years.
"Using 2020's extra day to make the leap to national delivery, while celebrating Leap Day babies, will be a fun moment for our brand and fans," Krispy Kreme CMO Dave Skena said in the release.
Krispy Kreme began testing online ordering and delivery in select U.S. markets in 2018 as part of its initiative to give customers access to fresh doughnuts whenever, wherever and however they want. Now, fans near most Krispy Kreme shops can order doughnuts for delivery at https://www.krispykreme.com/ or via the Krispy Kreme app.
Krispy Kreme is headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and has been churning out their whole-y baked goods since 1937. Today the brand has nearly 1,400 shops in 33 countries and distributes to about 12,000 retail outlets, as well.
