Krispy Kreme has launched Joy Goes Around Holiday Hangouts, a global in-store experience using Google Hangout videoconferencing. According to a news release, the experience allows in-store customers to shop, send and receive holiday messages from other customers at participating shops around the world.
"At Krispy Kreme, we believe that joy, no matter where it comes from, is contagious," CMO Dwayne Chambers said in a news release. "We wanted to do our part in spreading the joy this holiday season, by helping our fans around the world send and receive good cheer and celebrate the things they have in common, no matter where they live."
The Joy Goes Around Holiday Hangouts campaign uses Google Chromebook to connect up to 15 in-store guests at Krispy Kreme shops in 16 different countries via a 2-minute live video chat on a customized Hangouts page. On-screen prompts are included, such as "wave your hand, show off your doughnut, or toast your coffee."
The Joy Goes Around Holiday Hangouts experience is available at participating shops in the US, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Dominican Republic, the UK, Turkey, Russia, India, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Australia from now through Jan. 5.
Dunkin' Donuts hosted a Top Chef recipe contest on Google+ a year ago, but otherwise, QSR brands have not dabbled too much in the social media platform.
New board member
Krispy Kreme also announced that Tim E. Bentsen has joined its board of directors and was appointed to the company's audit committee.
Bentsen is a former audit partner and practice leader of KPMG LLP, a US audit, tax and advisory services firm. He is a faculty member at the J.M. Tull School of Accounting at the University of Georgia, an independent member of the board of trustees of Ridgeworth Funds, a mutual fund complex, and a member of the board of directors of Synovus Financial Corp.
