McDonald's Canada's mobile app now protects customers' fries from thieves

McDonald's Canada's mobile app has added a new feature, called the Fry Defender. According to the brand's website, the feature "Serves and Detects" fry theft threats.

Android Community reviewed the app, calling it a "witty and funny marketing move."

The Fry Defender features motion detector technology that "catches the thieves" if the device is placed near the fries. If someone attempts to steal a fry (or fries), the phone sounds an alarm and flashes. There are three alarm noise options.

The app also takes a photo of the fry thief for users to upload to their social media pages. McDonald's Canada is also encouraging these customers to "warn others" about potential fry threats by using the #stopfrytheft hashtag.
