McDonald's CEO Chris Kempszinski said the burger chain may call on law enforcement agencies to help enforce its mask mandate for consumers.

The brand is one of several top tier companies that issued a mask mandate in the past week. The list includes Walmart, CVS and Target. It's also in the midst of shuttering 200 U.S. locations due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The mask mandate is necessary to keep store crews and customers safe the CEO told CBS This Morning on Thursday.

"We've for quite some time required our crew to wear masks, but we thought that in light of what we're seeing, it's prudent now that we also ask our customers to wear masks in the restaurant as well," he said during the interview.

"If someone is unwilling to wear a mask and comply with our rules, that might be where we might bring in law enforcement," he said.

So far, according to Kempczinki, customers seem "more than willing," to wear a mask.
