McDonald's expands US delivery

May 31, 2017

McDonald's is growing its delivery operations on the UberEATS app to include 1,000 U.S. restaurants this week and 3,500 U.S. restaurants by the end of June, according to the corporate website. The chain now offers delivery at 2,000 restaurants nationwide.

CEO Steve Easterbrook said corporate leadership sees delivery as an accelerator for future growth particularly since so many Americans live near one of the chain's outlets, suggesting significant potential for sales through delivery.

"We are encouraged by early results in the U.S where delivery is resonating well, particularly with our younger customers," Easterbrook said in a note on the website. "Nearly 60 percent of orders are being placed during the evening or late night, providing our franchisees an opportunity to grow dayparts. And because speed matters, we’re getting food from order inception to the customer’s door in less than 30 minutes, on average."

The chain also has a growth plan in the works which aims to retain, regain and convert customers through what they chain calls "family occasion" and breakfast business, while also increasing quality and offering value through things like dollar beverages. McDonald's seeks to transition to fresh beef in quarter-pound burgers by mid-2018, and increase its coffee and snack business in coming days the website release said.
