McDonald's has shut down its internal employee resource website, according to CNN, which reported this morning that the site had featured a "tip" advising employees to avoid McDonald's fare. The tip included a picture of a meal with a cheeseburger, fries and a drink with the caption, "Unhealthy choice." Next to it was a graphic of a sub, a salad and water with the caption "Healthier choice."
This isn’t the first incident the chain has had with its employee website, McResource Line. In July, an employee budget-planning guide drew criticism for being out of touch with how much it costs to live. According to CNNMoney, for example, the guide didn't budget anything for food or gas and assumed employees received income from a second job.
In a statement posted on its website, McDonald's confirmed that the site had been taken down.
"A combination of factors has led us to re-evaluate and we've directed the vendor to take down the website," the statement reads. "Between links to irrelevant or outdated information, along with outside groups taking elements out of context, this created unwarranted scrutiny and inappropriate commentary. None of this helps our McDonald's team members."
