McDonald's takes coffee to new heights

November 21, 2016

With most of the land in the known world bespeckled with McDonald's golden arches, the chain is now moving to the skies. As of Dec. 1, WestJet McCafé Premium Roast coffee will be served on all flights, beginning today on the Toronto to Calgary route. The move is a McDonald's first ascension to these loftier heights and markets and by Dec. 1, the chain's premium roast will be available on all Boeing 737NG and 767NG aircraft with the company's regional airline, WestJet Encore, to follow.

New brewing procedures were developed for the in-flight service of the liquid pick-me-upper resulting in what a news release says is a "rich, bold taste."

"We are delighted to bring a new way to café on board WestJet and know that our 21 million guests per year will enjoy the taste of a complimentary McCafé Premium Roast Coffee wherever they are flying," said Gregg Saretsky, WestJet president and CEO.

McDonald's Canada President and CEO agreed and took advantage of the announcement to link the brand to all things higher and above standard.

"We've always believed that the sky is the limit for McCafe – and today this officially rings true," Betts said in a news release. "We're proud that Canadians have welcomed McCafé into their homes and daily routines, and now our partnership with WestJet lets us take this connection to even greater heights for Canadian coffee lovers."

The partnership will dole out approximately 30,000 cups of McCafe Premium Roast coffee daily in-flight served in signature double-walled cups, with the on-cup rewards collector card and sticker, redeemable at participating Canadian McDonald's restaurants.
