This may the year that fast food goes a little offbeat. McDonald's is testing snow crab on sourdough in four San Jose, California, locations, according to a news release.
The sandwich combines crab meat, celery, seasoned mayo, romaine lettuce and tomato slices on an herb butter-brushed and toasted sourdough bun. A news release said the test sandwich is part of the brand's continuing trend to experiment with regional flavors. In fact, McDonald's of the Greater Bay Area worked with chef and TV personality Ryan Scott to develop this crabby offering.
"After the overwhelming success of our local favorite, McDonald's Gilroy Garlic Fries, we wanted to test our own take on the beloved crab sandwich," McDonald's San Francisco Bay Area Co-op President Nick Vergis, said in a release.
If customers gobble up this innovation, the company said it will make the crab sandwich available at nearly 250 McDonald's restaurants across the San Francisco Bay Area later this year.
