McDonald's to test packaged coffee in the retail space

October 31, 2013

McDonald's McCafe products will be available in select grocery and retail locations in the U.S. beginning in 2014. According to the Chicago Tribune, McDonald's teamed up with Kraft Foods Group Inc. to test McCafe-branded packaged coffees, including whole bean, ground and single-cup options.

The test markets were not disclosed.

McDonald's released a statement to the Tribune that said the tests build on the "momentum of the McCafe beverages." Kraft is expected to head up the marketing efforts behind the retail effort.

The announcement comes nearly a year after McDonald's Canada rolled out its McCafe retail line.

QSR-to-retail coffee is nothing new. Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks have long had branded packaged coffee lines for retail. Krispy Kreme debuted its retail coffee earlier this month.
