Three years ago, that Cowboy hat-bearing chain known as Arby's became the world's largest restaurant brand to offer that "soft taco" of Greece, the gyro. Today, the chain sells 27 million each year, making it the biggest gyro-selling chain in the U.S.
To celebrate, the brand is adding a traditional Greek gyro to its offerings for a limited time. The LTO blends beef, lamb, Mediterranean spices, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, tzatziki sauce and Greek seasoning inside a warm piece of flatbread. The sandwich joins its longtime sibling gyros of the roast beef and turkey gyros on the Arby's menu for an undisclosed time period.
"We’ve been selling amazing gyros for two years, but it turns out gyros started in Greece, not Arby's," Arby's CMO and Brand President Rob Lynch, said in a news release. "So to deliver an authentic Greek gyro experience, we sourced gyro meat sliced from spit rotisseries like the ones found in traditional Greek restaurants."
The 53-year-old chain has more than 3,300 outlets globally.
