March 9, 2012
A ribbon cutting ceremony is being held March 9 to celebrate the newest Whataburger restaurant in its hometown of San Antonio, Texas.
The unit is distinct from traditional Whataburger locations, as it is part of a redevelopment effort that San Antonio mayor Julián Castro declared the "Decade of Downtown."
The restaurant features unique design elements such as bar-height seating and custom lighting. Customers also can enjoy a downtown view through full-sized windows overlooking East Commerce and North Presa streets.
It also offers booth seating and boasts a unique Italian-tile wall — in Whataburger orange -- as well as graphics that detail Whataburger's history.
According to PitchEngine.com, the downtown Whataburger is the second of four new locations to open in the San Antonio area in the first quarter of 2012, including Whataburger's newest restaurant at 11003 NW Military Highway, which opened on Feb. 21.
Whataburger partners with programs that benefit local kids and families, including SA Goes Orange with the San Antonio Food Bank, St. PJ's Children's Home, and the Fisher House Foundation.
