Participating McDonald's in northern California and northern Nevada will offer free breakfast to kindergarten through eighth grade students from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15. All students must be accompanied by an adult when visiting a participating restaurant, according to a company press release.
Students can receive an Egg McMuffin, apple slices and 1-percent low fat milk.
"Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast have less tardiness and absent days along with being more productive and successful in school with higher test scores, better concentration and muscle coordination," said Alice Fagundes, MS, RDN, FAND and California Dietetic Association Foundation chair. "As many families are busy, particularly in the morning, McDonald's strives to provide an array of healthful options for both parents and children."
Families may order breakfast options such as the Egg McMuffin, which features Grade A egg, extra lean Canadian bacon and a slice of melted American cheese on an English muffin, the release stated.
"McDonald's continues to provide a variety of wholesome breakfast choices for families on-the-go," said Gino Potesta, VP and general manager, Pacific Sierra Region. "With the return of this program, we are thrilled to help students and families throughout northern California and northern Nevada kick off the new school year with a satisfying breakfast."
