New York City's polystyrene foam ban will take effect July 1, according to the Guardian.
The ban will especially impact restaurants, which often rely on polystyrene foam takeout and serving containers. Polystyrene foam is not recyclable, and can interfere with recycling and waste reduction efforts by contaminating other recyclables.
New York City isn't alone in banning polystyrene foam, also commonly known as Styrofoam. Washington D.C., Minneapolis, San Francisco, Seattle and more than 70 other cities also have bans on the material.
Dunkin’ Donuts says it will comply with the ban and plans to phase out polystyrene foam products in the next two or three years.
