PETA to Taco Bell: 'We love you right down to your beans'

April 7, 2017

PETA, may be most well-known for its campaigns against businesses that it alleges cause harm to animals, but today the organization is showing how business-friendly it can be to chains that support its motto that "animals are not ours to eat."  PETA has unveiled billboards in three states encouraging diners to eat at Taco Bell in the U.S., according to a news release.

The signs feature a chicken's face, accompanied by the words "Let's All 'Live Más.' Would It Kill You to Get a Bean Burrito?" That, of course, is a play on the Mexican food brand's tagline, but in this case, it's a promotion of the concept's certified vegan offerings.

The billboards are on bus shelter signage near Taco Bell locations in Florida, Georgia and New York. It's a slightly different and more positive mission-furthering tactic for PETA, which promotes vegan diets to further animal welfare, health and environmental sustainability.

"It's easier than ever to find delicious, cruelty-free vegan food, including at fast-food staples like Taco Bell,"  PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a news release. "Unlike meaty dishes, vegan meals are free of saturated animal fat and cholesterol. Going vegan also spares more than 100 animals every year daily suffering and a terrifying death in today's industrialized meat, egg, and dairy industries."

PETA and its youth division, peta2, have also created a guide to eating vegan when dining at Taco Bell. In fact, the organization's so-called "Lettuce Ladies" are handing out free vegan-friendly bean burritos today to promote the cause at numerous chain locations.
