Popeyes builds 'socialgating' center for football

December 8, 2016

If there's anything Americans love as much as football, it's talking and Tweeting about football. Popeye's wants to capitalize on that national addiction by becoming a center for football "socialgating." That's the term being used to refer to the predilection of football fans to not only watch the game on TV, but simultaneously chatter about what's happening via social media on their mobile devices.

Popeye's is getting in on the marketing opportunity with a number of digital initiatives that put it squarely in the middle of this multi-screen, multi-media trend, according to a news release.

"Popeyes has long been a part of football celebrations and we have created our first-ever digital hub as a destination for what we proclaim as the newest trend in football: Socialgating," said Hector A. Muñoz, Popeyes CMO-US. "It was a natural next step for Popeyes, who also sponsors the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. We know fans love to enjoy our food, especially our wings, during games.  Mix that with how much social media allows fans to follow their teams and it’s a perfect combination."

At the chain's website, footballisbetterwithpopeyes.com, fans can play instant win games, vote on their favorite Popeyes pick, enter secret keywords found on Popeyes social channels and get tips on tailgating, and all the while earn chances to win prizes, including a trip to the Bahamas Bowl.
