Popeyes franchisee raises $670K to fight Musclar Dystrophy

May 31, 2013

The Sailormen Inc. Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Golf Classic has raised more than $670,000 to help support the Muscular Dystrophy Association and those affected by neuromuscular disease.

This year's Appetite for a Cure program ran from Jan. 28 through March 17 at participating Popeyes restaurants in South Florida and across the Southeast. The program raised more than $503,000 through the sale of $1 coupon cards worth $30 to be used toward free and discounted purchases during future visits.

Additionally, more than 40 companies sponsored the ninth annual Sailormen Inc., Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Golf Classic, held May 9 in Miami Lakes, Fla., that raised more than $167,000. The tournament was hosted by former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL player Gino Torretta.

"I'm proud of Sailormen/Popeyes employees, customers and business partners for helping us reach our fundraising goal for MDA through this year's 'Appetite for a Cure' program and the Golf Classic," said Sailormen Inc. CEO Bob Berg. "It's important to us to go above and beyond to help families living with muscle disease in our community and support important MDA programs, like MDA summer camp."

Sailormen Inc. is the largest domestic franchisee of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurants, with 143 locations in seven states. The company has raised nearly $4 million for MDA since 2002.
