As the city of San Francisco struggles to compromise in the recent vote to ban kids' meals that don't meet certain guidelines, another city is grappling with the idea to push through a similar prohibition.
Greg Mertzig, a city council member in Superior City, Wisc., has drafted a resolution to ban the inclusion of toys in quick-service restaurant meals that do not meet certain requirements. These include meals with a count of more than 600 calories, fat content exceeding 10 percent and sodium levels above 500 milligrams.
Additionally, the kids' meals also must meet FDA recommendations for fruit, vegetables and whole grains.
According to an NBC affiliate in Duluth, Minn., the ordinance is up for a preliminary vote on Dec. 7.
