Ronald McDonald House goes mobile in Canada

June 13, 2012

Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta and Mosaic Primary Care Network have announced a new community health program - The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. This new program brings medical care into the community to serve families in East Calgary, where language and social circumstances can be barriers to accessing health care.

The program combines the family support objectives of Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta with the medical expertise and services of Mosaic Primary Care Network, to provide families with free and easily accessible health care in their local communities.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a 12-meter-long, 2-meter-wide vehicle that includes two patient examination rooms, a medical supplies storage area and reception area.

The vehicle will deliver free medical, dental and health education services directly to underserved families. Through the medical services of Mosaic Primary Care Network, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile will deploy programs with screening and diagnosis, plus educational and preventative services tailored to the specific needs of families.

Scholarship recipients named

Additionally, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) announced the names of four Hispanic high school seniors who will each receive an RMHC/HACER National Scholarship of $100,000 to help finance their college education. The students were selected for their academic achievement, investment in community service and financial need.

This year's scholarships were awarded to Maria Fabre, from Edinburg, Texas, attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Kevin Pardinas, from Miami, attending Princeton University; Emily Salvador, from Vero Beach, Fla., attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Carina Zuniga, from San Juan, Texas, attending Baylor University. They were selected as the top achievers among a group of thousands of students who applied for the RMHC/HACER Scholarship Program.
