Smoothie chain raises awareness for wage gap on International Women's Day

March 8, 2017

The gender wage gap won't close until 2186, according to the World Economic Forum. To accelerate the process, and raise awareness for International Women's Day on March 8, Bananas Smoothies & Frozen Yogurt released its Common Cents Smoothie, which costs $.80 for women and $1 for men, the same wage gap currently in play, according to a press release.

"Here at Bananas, and across all of our brands, we value the value the work of every single one of our employees, no matter their race, creed or gender," Andrea Carella, brand manager of Bananas Smoothies & Frozen Yogurt, said in the release. "We hope that through the launch of our Common Cents Smoothie we will continue to raise awareness on a real problem, not only in our industry, but in our country, as 169 years is too long to wait to see change."

The smoothie contains strawberries, nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt, honey water and peanut butter, according to the release.
