Sonic does lower-cal cheeseburger

March 6, 2018

Sonic has introduced a new lower-calorie cheeseburger as part of its Signature Slingers, which start at under 350 calories each at a $1.99 price, simultaneously checking health and value boxes with a single offering.

The brand calls its Slingers "revamped" traditional American cheeseburgers, made with a blend of beef, mushrooms and seasonings, a news release said.

"The Signature Slingers is a first-of-its-kind fast food cheeseburger, which delivers the juicy savory deliciousness you expect from a burger in a way that makes you feel like you're getting away with something," Sonic Vice President of Product Innovation and Development Scott Uehlein said in the release. "Adding mushrooms right into the burger patty amps up the incredible flavors of the 100-percent pure beef and seasonings you get in each bite."

This week, the brand began offering two versions of Slinger cheeseburgers: a classic with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, mayo and melted American cheese on a brioche bun; and a bacon melt, which adds bacon.

"The trend of blending mushrooms into a burger patty has been atop a number of food trend lists this year and we can't wait for guests to experience Sonic's," Mushroom Council President Bart Minor said in the release.
