Sonic franchise deal puts refranchising program ahead of schedule

Sonic Drive-In has signed a deal with multi-brand franchise organization, Let’s Shake, to buy 53 Texas locations as part of a refranchising initiative focused on converting the chain to a 95 percent-franchised system. The Let's Shake deal includes drive-ins in San Antonio, as well as an agreement to purchase five new drive-ins in the market over the next several years, according to a news release.

Sale of Sonic's San Antonio drive-ins, along with other refranchising sales, makes the chain 92-percent franchised. 

The brand expects to complete the initiative ahead of schedule, by Q3 2017.
