Subway announces contest winner

November 23, 2010

The results are in for the Subway Fresh Artists competition, which launched in September. The winning band, Stars Go Dim, will get the opportunity to open for a Goo Goo Dolls concert.

The band also won a $1,000 cash prize and a session with a professional songwriter. The band's winning song, "Get Over It," will be featured on OurStage.com and iheartradio's "New! Discover and Uncover" platform.

"This program exceeded all of our expectations. The Goo Goo Dolls, Clear Channel and OurStage.com were all great to work with and we are glad Stars Go Dim will get a chance in the spotlight," said Tony Pace, Subway Franchisee Advertising Fund Trust chief marketing officer. "We are happy to be able to give up-and-coming artists a chance to shine via programs like Fresh Artists. Consumers seemed to like it too with over a million votes being cast."

Stars Go Dim formed almost two years ago in Tulsa, Okla., where its popularity has grown. For a free download of the band's winning song, visit its website.

"The Subway Fresh Artist competition was a terrific opportunity to showcase our music for millions of music fans around the world," said Michael Wittig, bassist for Stars Go Dim. "It's a thrill to win and we can't wait to open for the Goo Goo Dolls."

The competition asked bands to help promote Subway's new "Build Your Better Breakfast" campaign. The public was able to listen and vote for their favorites through OurStage.com and Clear Channel Radio stations. More than 1,200 bands uploaded songs and listeners submitted more than 1 million votes. The country was divided into 10 regions, and the public voted for their top 50 from each region. Last month, a panel chose one winner from each region before choosing the grand prize winner.
