Out of about 37,000 Subway outlets in the world, only one is completely meatless. According to the Times of India, Subway is introducing its vegetarian outlet at Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar, India.
The private state university is run by a Hindu family who strictly promotes vegetarianism. They approached Subway in November 2011, with the idea for the unit, which will officially open Sept. 4.
The Subway system currently has 280 outlets in India, which has a large population of vegetarians. None of the Subways in the country sells beef and all of them have a separate counter serving six vegetarian options including chickpeas, aloo patty, veggi shammi and paneer-based salads.
