Taco Bell Canada jumps on board with beef defense

April 4, 2011

From April 7-13, Taco Bell Canada will offer free tacos at every location across the country. The chain is offering the promotion to celebrate the quality of its seasoned beef items in the wake of a lawsuit and subsequent media firestorm in the U.S.

"You could say there's been a lot of talk about our beef quality lately – and we thought we'd set the record straight and let Canadians taste our amazing beef tacos," said Dan Howe, chief marketing officer for Yum! Restaurants Canada, which owns the Taco Bell brand in Canada.

Howe added that Taco Bell's Free Taco Week is a genuine opportunity to share the key facts about Taco Bell's beef quality. The recipe includes 88 percent beef and 12 percent seasonings and other ingredients.

"We stand behind the quality of our beef and want to share the facts with Canadians," said Howe.

The company will air television ads throughout April sharing the story behind its beef, just as it did in the U.S. earlier this year.

Free tacos will be offered to customers at any of Taco Bell's 204 locations in Canada from April 7-13 from 3 to 6 p.m. The offer is limited to one taco per day per customer.
