Taco Bell launches new beverage line

April 19, 2010

As part of its strategy to add new sales layers, Taco Bell has added a new beverage product, Limeade Sparklers. The drink comes in two flavors: Cherry and Classic Limeade. The drinks are priced at $1.69 for 16-ounce and $1.99 for a 20-ounce. Limeade Sparklers are a refreshing lemon-lime soda made with real lime juice and natural fruit flavors, garnished with a real lime wedge.

Limeades have proven a big hit for Sonic, which has boosted traffic during its daily Happy Hour drink deals. Sonic plans to ramp up its beverage offerings with the rollout of additional equipment to extend the number of drink choices the chain offers. Fountain and frozen drinks are the chain's primary menu item, and the new equipment will boost the number of possible combinations well beyond the current 168,000.

The specialty beverage category has become a hot target for quick-service chains as consumption of soft drinks has fallen in recent years and consumer interest in new flavors and platforms grows.

Correction: QSRWeb.com initially incorrectly described the new beverage as being in test. The product launched nationwide April 8.
