To help operate the 85 new units opening between May and August, Taco Bell expects to hire 3,500 workers, according to a company press release. That's just the beginning of the growth plan, however. Over the next five years, it plans to hire 100,000 employees to help staff a total of 8,000 U.S. locations, after the chain adds 1,000 new sites.
The chain is partnering with the RV-based career-exploration program, Roadtrip Nation, to facilitate its nationwide hiring push and place job seekers in a variety of positions from seasonal help to permanent positions that act as the start of careers with the company.
The chain encourages its employees and alumni to develop profiles and connect with others through the Roadtrip Nation partnership to share stories about how they got to where they are today through the help of Taco Bell jobs. The platform aims to foster networks and communities that help employees help each other.
"We’re proud to partner with Taco Bell on this innovative approach to help current and prospective employees visualize paths to progression either within or beyond such a forward-thinking company," Roadtrip Nation co-founder, Mike Marriner, said in a news release.
Taco Bell Chief People Officer Frank Tucker agreed, adding, "Our system’s employees are central to creating exceptional experiences for the 46 million customers we serve each week.Taco Bell and our franchisees are committed to building workplaces where team members want to work and grow. That starts by showcasing the diverse pathways in the Taco Bell system and celebrating employees’ achievements, which we’re doing by shining a spotlight on some of Taco Bell’s most impressive young talent."
Taco Bell is also putting the focus on some of its own top performers, by initiating its "30 under 30" list. This group of individuals are especially talented and show the career potential of a job at the fast food Mexican outlet.
"Taco Bell team members are our biggest and most important brand ambassadors, and we are proud of and committed to maintaining the fact that 80 percent of our restaurant leadership roles are promoted from within," said Tucker.
Roadtrip Nation is one of the many programs the Taco Bell system offers as part of its Start with Us, Stay with Us platform, which was featured in a story on QSRweb recently. The chain also provides leadership development programs and education support through its GED certification, scholarship and college programs.
