Taco Bueno President and CEO Michael Roper's adventure of going undercover to assume the role of a warehouse worker at the chain will air at 8 p.m., Friday on "UnderCover Boss." To convincingly take on the surreptitious role, Roper was carefully recreated by Hollywood make-up artists, transitioning from a dark-haired executive, to a red-headed warehouse worker.
The CBS show disguises the appearances of business leaders and then puts them in specially created lower-level positions as new hires at their own companies. Over the years, that's led to lots of drama, even more comedy and some truly touching encounters between the person in the C-suite and employees often cleaning dishes and toilets.
"From working with our frontline team members who deliver the best they can every day, to working operationally in the warehouse, the experience was something I never thought I’d have the opportunity to do," Roper said in a news release in advance of the show. "I'll be honest, though, I did crash and burn when tasked with operating a forklift in the warehouse. But the overall experience is one that I have been able to take back to the boardroom with a fresh perspective that only comes when you can truly go undercover."
A variety of other leaders of restaurant brands, including Muscle Maker Grill and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, have appeared on the show.
